Hagia Sofia is Turkey's most famous monument. It was
built as a church about 500 AD by Roman Emperor Justinian,
with materials pulled from the famous Temple to Artemus
in Ephesus.
It
is an architectural marvel for its domes and arches,
innovative for their time, and still one of the largest
churches in the world. It was used as a mosque for 500
years and is now a museum.
